Hacks for Healthier Living

Trying to live and be healthier is a noble goal, and one that will likely lead to a long, happy life in the long term, and elevated spirits and simply feeling better in the short term. You’ll have more peace of mind, too, having less to worry about health wise, and your confidence will get a nice boost to boot. It’s really a win-win-win all around… if you can make it work.

That’s the trick, isn’t it? “Being healthier” is a vague concept, and often a difficult one to achieve without clear direction and doable, realistic steps to take. Well, that’s what Vine Vera is going to help you with today: we’re giving you some helpful tips, tricks, and life hacks to building a healthier — and therefore happier — lifestyle.

Roasted veggies

Roast Some Veggies
Incorporating more vegetables into your diet is a great way to facilitate a healthier, more nutritious lifestyle, but they can get boring quickly, especially when you don’t know many ways to prepare them to make them tasty.

A positively delicious and still just as nutritious solution is to roast them. You can roast just about anything from cauliflower to carrots to winter squash (technically a fruit, but it’s more like a veggie nutritionally), and there are a dozen different ways to do it, so experiment with spice combinations to find something you love. One particularly tasty option is to roast cauliflower in the oven with paprika, garlic, and olive oil.

To roast just about any vegetable, cut it into bite-sized chunks and lay them on a baking sheet, drizzle them with a cooking oil of your choice, sprinkle on your favorite spices, and pop it all into the oven (cooking temps and times vary depending on the vegetable).

Combat Depression with Rote Tasks
Depression can be a vicious, unforgiving beast for those who deal with it (and, by the way, it can affect anyone of any age for a variety of reasons), and getting it to let up sometimes may as well be impossible. The good news is, as trite as it may sound for those caught in depression’s malevolent, suffocating grasp, it really does get better. It can take time and effort, but you can get there.

But in the meantime, one thing you can do to lessen the sting and arm yourself against depression is to engage in a simple, familiar, rote task. Clean up the house, do laundry, dishes, etc: just do something simple and mindless to break up the negative thought loops. It can be an effective coping mechanism while you gradually work on the larger issues.

Go For a Jog
And when you do, remember this handy tip: restaurants are required to give you free water, whether you actually eat there or not. If it’s hot out and you deplete your water bottle, look for a restaurant nearby and step in for some precious hydration.

Make use of music to keep you motivated and going on your run. Fast paced, intense music can keep the adrenaline flowing and actually increase your heart rate, helping you maximize the benefit of your cardiovascular workout. You can also make use of handy apps like to find a playlist that matches the pace of your jog.
