Spring 2016 Hair and Makeup

Dreaming of warm, spring weather? We are too, which is why we rounded up some of the most prominent hair and makeup trends for spring 2016. Runway shows were anything but neutral for spring with bright blue eyes, deep berry and oxblood lips and hair accessories that are fun and playful, not fussy. Try one of these trends today to beat the winter blues.

Woman with bronzed look.

Bronzed Glow
Designers were looking towards summer at their spring 2016 shows and models walked the runway with gorgeous glows that bring warm days and sunshine to mind. Bronzer for spring 2016 is way less about contour, rather it is about creating a natural bronze flush to your face. Balmain blended cream bronzer with a highlight to give models the appearance that they had just flown in from an exotic vacation while Tommy Hilfiger went all out with bronzer and recalled the perfect California beach girl suntan. Models at Michael Kors had the most subtle hint of bronzer that brought a bit of life to the face without being over-the-top. To wear this trend, use your favorite bronzer and lightly apply it to areas of your face that the sun would hit naturally like your forehead, cheeks and nose.

Bright Blue Eye Makeup
When a super bright color is seen on the runways time and again for one season, the first question people have is “how can I pull that off?” and when it comes to blue eye makeup for spring 2016, the answer is however you want to. There were no rules when it came to using blue on the eyes and every hue of blue imaginable was shown. Monique Lhuillier had models sporting a vivid cyan, Boss featured a cobalt lid, Chanel used periwinkle blue in a futuristic way and Sonia Rykiel mixed blue and gray for a smoked out, sultry look. If you’re concerned about trying the blue eye look, you can ease into it. Use a navy liner rather than your standard black, try a blue mascara or smudge a cobalt blue on your lower lash line for a pop of color that won’t overwhelm your whole face.

Woman with long lashes.

Big Lashes
The no-makeup makeup look is on the back burner for spring 2016 and big, bold lashes made a statement on several runways. Louis Vuitton features large, futuristic lashes, Tod’s used a bright cyan blue mascara against a bare face for maximum impact and Giorgio Armani used plenty of mascara to enhance the eyes. Try a colored mascara for a pop of fun or stick your basic black and layer several coats of mascara to get a standout lash look.

Hair Accessories
Flower crowns, black bands and jeweled combs were all over the runway for spring 2016. Many of the hairstyles that accompanied these accessories were simple and casual allowing the hair accessories to really be the focus. Models at Michael Kors wore a very undone twisted half-up look using an amber hairpin, Oscar de la Renta showed super simple low ponytails with a large black ribbon and Rodarte used the softest of waves on models with elaborate pins and combs being the focus. This hair trend for spring 2016 is super easy to follow, because there are no rules. You can pull your hair back in a braid and add a thick black headband for a polished look or your can go for casual waves with a statement pin to hold your bangs back.

French manicure

French Manicures
If you’re wondering why a simple French manicure is a revolutionary spring 2016 trend, it’s because these manis were anything but basic. Tibi updated the classic white “smile” tip by leaving a small sliver of negative space in the lower portion of the white polish, Monique Lhuillier used a spring green on the tips and Cushnie et Ochs created a French manicure that featured oxblood tips applied in a sharp “V” shape as opposed to the softer “U” shape of a standard French manicure. You can get this look by picking up nail pens in any color that suits your fancy and simply drawing a line across the tips of your nails. Some color inspiration that was seen on the runway includes orange, silver and spring green.

Spring 2016 hair and makeup is all about being bold and lively. Have fun experimenting with different hair and makeup styles as you look forward to warmer weather. Try one of these trends today and think spring.
